Summary[]

As Agni continues down the bridge, Sun begins to follow him. As he tries to catch up, however, he ends up tripping on one of the bodies that Agni burned. When he picks up the arm, he begins to panic, telling himself he won't look at it. Agni notices Sun's yells, and when Sun realizes, his behavior quickly changes again, going back to happy and excited. He introduces himself as Sun and that his favorite foods are potatoes and sweets, but Agni ignores him, continuing his hike down the bridge. Sun catches up again and repeats his favorite foods, but Agni tells him to go away and not to follow. Sun ignores this, and asks if Agni is God. Agni is confused and Sun clarifies that earlier, when he had a gun pointed at him, he had prayed to God to save him and Agni came; therefore, Agni must be God. Agni tells Sun that he isn't God, but Agni, and demands him to stop following him. Sun continues following Agni, referring to him as "Mr. Agni." After Agni warns him not to get too close, he asks why Sun is following him. Sun explains that he has no home and that if he doesn't follow Agni's warmth, he'll freeze to death. Sun, though, is more concerned with not being able to eat if he's frozen as opposed to dying. Agni tells Sun that it's not his problem. Sun offers a "treasure" in exchange for letting him stay close and pulls a small mound of sugar out of his pocket. The sugar, however, is quickly blown away into the wind, to Sun's dismay. Agni, once again, attempts to walk off without Sun, but Sun runs after him, calling his name.

From a nearby hill, a Behemdorg soldier watches Agni and Sun through a pair of binoculars, laying on the ground with three other soldiers. The man deduces that Agni is the one that killed the soldiers earlier, but wrongly assumes that he is a flame-type blessed. The man then looks at Sun and tells the group that he wants him alive. The soldier makes a plan to attack Agni at nightfall, and orders the soldiers to follow him and inform the higher-ups. The man says that if they manage to kill Agni, they have a good chance of getting a female slave, but one of the soldiers in the group states that he would want a nine year old boy instead.

During the night, Sun continues to follow Agni through the blizzard, staying on the path of melted snow Agni leaves in his wake. As Sun starts to falter, he assures Agni not to worry about him, before laying on the ground. As he lays in the snow, he has a vision of his past. In his old village, the religious leaders tell him that God's plan was for him to leave the village and live on his own. Sun is excited to know God is watching, waving to him, but Sun's brother tells him that the priests are lying and only want Sun to leave so they can have less mouths to feed. He calls Sun small and "not that bright," and that the village doesn't want to waste food on him, which Sun finds to be mean. Sun's brother waves him goodbye, giving him good luck, and tells him not to die, because if he does, "it's all over." Suddenly, Sun wakes up to find Agni sitting on the ground in front of him, keeping him warm. Agni points out a run down house nearby and tells Sun to go there. Sun obeys and asks if Agni can light a fire for him, but Agni tells him that his flames are dangerous and to do it himself. Sun grabs a small stick and, to Agni's surprise, lights it on fire with a previously unseen electricity blessing. Sun explains that his blessing allows him to create "zappy electricity," but it's the only thing he has to offer. He tells Agni that he was picked on in his village for being so weak, and that they eventually kicked him out so they didn't have to feed him anymore. As Sun sets up his sleeping bag, he asks what "didn't want another mouth to feed" means, but quickly changes the subject, thanking Agni again for saving him. Agni starts to protest, but decides not to, instead telling Sun that he doesn't care what happens to him, he just doesn't want to see him die in front of him. Sun assures that he won't die, because if he did, he would forget his brother, sugar, his priest, Tinea, Granny Tua, and sugar. Sun says that he doesn't want to forget these things because he loves them all. Agni points out that he mentioned sugar twice, and Sun says he loves sugar. Then, he asks Agni what he loves. After a long pause, Agni answers with "stew and meat." Then, Agni tells Sun that he is leaving at sunrise and to not follow him anymore, only to find that Sun is sound asleep. As Agni watches Sun, he crumples to the ground in pain. He attempts to distract himself from the pain and remembers Doma, the killer of his sister and the cause of his pain. He swears to himself that he will kill him, but is suddenly shot through the head. The soldiers from earlier begin to shoot Agni in the head, with Sun sleeping through the entire thing.
